King of Pop Still Reigns! Michael Jackson's Compilation Dominates U.K. Albums Chart

Michael Jackson has extended his remarkable resurgence on the U.K. Official Albums Chart, with his greatest-hits compilation, The Essential Michael Jackson, securing its second consecutive week at the No. 1 spot on the tally dated May 15. This renewed dominance in Jackson’s catalogue is largely attributed to the highly anticipated Michael biopic, which has significantly boosted streaming figures and physical sales across his entire discography in recent weeks. The Essential Michael Jackson had previously reclaimed the No. 1 position on the May 8 chart, marking its first return to the summit in 17 years, and has now successfully maintained its top reign.
Amidst Jackson's continued success, Westlife’s new compilation, 25 – The Ultimate Collection, made a strong debut at No. 2, narrowly missing the top spot after leading the midweek race. This hit-packed release marks the Irish boyband’s 15th album to reach the U.K. Top 10. Elsewhere in the top tier, Noah Kahan’s The Great Divide climbed one position to No. 3, while Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving secured the No. 4 spot. Further solidifying his chart presence, Michael Jackson also saw his iconic 1982 album Thriller ascend to No. 5, placing two of his titles within the top five.
Sheffield indie favorites Reverend and The Makers celebrated a significant return to the top 10, as their new album, Is This How Happiness Feels?, debuted impressively at No. 7. This achievement marks the band’s third U.K. Top 10 entry, following their breakthrough in 2007 with The State of Things and their 2023 release Heatwave in the Cold North. Frontman Jon McClure expressed his satisfaction with this milestone, stating exclusively to the Official Charts Company, “Number 1 Official Independent album and a third Top Ten. Enjoying being a chart veteran!”
Other notable chart movements include Harry Styles’ former chart-topper, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally., which soared back into the chart at No. 9. This re-entry comes in anticipation of his upcoming Together, Together Tour, set to commence this weekend in Amsterdam. Pop superstar Katy Perry also saw her compilation, The One That Got the Plays, featuring her greatest hits, enter the chart at No. 13, while her 2010 pop opus Teenage Dream scaled three spots to No. 36. Additionally, Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft made a return to the top 40, landing at No. 32.
