Kalu's Shock Promise: Concession if Abia APC Ticket Slips Away

Mascot Uzor Kalu, a 2027 governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, has publicly committed to a principle of party unity and cooperation. Speaking on the sidelines of a stakeholders’ meeting of the state chapter of the APC in Umuahia, Kalu assured that he would concede the ticket and fully support the eventual winner, should he not emerge victorious in the party primaries. In reciprocal fashion, he expressed his expectation that his fellow aspirants would extend the same level of support and cooperation to him if he secures the ticket, emphasizing this approach as crucial for the APC to win the upcoming election.
Kalu, who is the younger brother of former Abia State governor Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, underscored the importance of unity within the party. He stressed the need for members to set aside bitterness and rancor, uniting for the common goal of the APC as preparations for the election intensify. He also clarified that his gubernatorial aspiration is a personal and individual endeavor, stating that it should not be perceived as representing any other individual or group.
Reflecting on his political journey, Kalu lauded the leadership qualities of the current APC chairman in the state and the executive members. He recalled his participation in the 2023 election, where he ran on the platform of the Action Peoples Party (APP). Kalu noted that prior to his departure from the APC to join the APP, he had explicitly informed his supporters of his intention to return to the APC, irrespective of the election's outcome. Since his return in 2023, he has been actively collaborating with other stakeholders to strengthen the APC, aiming to position the party for victory at all levels within the state. Additionally, Kalu briefly served as the chief of staff to former Governor Senator Theodore Orji, a role that Orji himself had held for Mascot's elder brother from 1999 to 2007.
