Iran Flaunts 'Reasonable, Generous' Stance on US Proposal Amid Tense Diplomacy

Iran has described its latest proposal to the United States regarding ongoing disputes as “realistic and positive,” according to an anonymous Iranian official cited by Al Jazeera. This reply, focused on ending the regional war and resolving disagreements with Washington, was also termed “reasonable and generous” by Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, though Washington reportedly rejected it as unacceptable.
The Iranian official, speaking anonymously, detailed that Tehran’s response includes key demands such as negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz, discussions concerning Iran’s nuclear program, and the complete lifting of all sanctions. The proposal strongly emphasizes the necessity of a “clear and guaranteed mechanism” for the removal of these sanctions and calls for international guarantees to ensure the implementation of any future agreement reached with the United States. Furthermore, the official indicated that Iran’s response was formulated based on its “supreme interests” and after thorough consultations with various regional countries.
Echoing these sentiments, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, reiterated on Monday that Iran’s demands encompassed ending the regional war, lifting the US blockade, and releasing Iran’s frozen assets. He also highlighted that ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and maintaining security in the region were integral components of the proposal. Baghaei asserted that “The Islamic Republic has proven that it is a responsible power in the region. We are not bullies; we stand against bullies,” while simultaneously accusing Washington of persisting with “unreasonable” and one-sided demands.
