Influencer Blessing CEO's Stage 4 Cancer Claim Sparks Nationwide Outcry

Social media personality Blessing Okoro, widely known as Blessing CEO, is embroiled in a significant controversy following her claim of a breast cancer diagnosis, which led to her raising an alleged N13 million in public donations. The authenticity of her health claims has been intensely questioned by many Nigerians, leading to widespread calls for her arrest and prosecution for fraud.
The controversy began when Blessing CEO publicly announced her cancer diagnosis and appealed for financial assistance for treatment. This appeal garnered sympathy and significant contributions, reportedly totaling N13 million. However, doubts quickly emerged, escalating after a medical professional publicly challenged the veracity of her diagnosis.
In an interview with online personality Egungun, Blessing CEO reaffirmed her cancer claim and addressed the fundraising, describing it as a “miscommunication” and asserting she was “unapologetic” for her actions. This stance further fueled public anger, with numerous social media users demanding an apology and a full refund of all donations. Users like Nkem4eva and RIA OF IBADAN explicitly called for police intervention, labeling the act as fraudulent and a “criminal case.” Jagaban Baby expressed strong condemnation, hoping for legal consequences.
The dispute reached a critical point during an Arise TV interview on April 4, where Blessing CEO confronted Nigerian medical doctor, Dr. Adefunke Arowolo. Blessing recounted a story of discovering a breast lump, undergoing an initial non-cancerous test, and then a subsequent test months later revealing stage 4 cancer, leading her to consult an oncologist in Enugu. Dr. Arowolo systematically dismantled these claims, highlighting several medical inconsistencies. She argued that a biopsy is never the first diagnostic step; imaging like an ultrasound or mammogram precedes it. Furthermore, no qualified doctor would permit a patient to live with an undiagnosed breast lump for six months. Dr. Arowolo also stated that oncologists are only consulted after a biopsy confirms cancer.
Adding another layer of deceit, Dr. Arowolo revealed she had contacted the pathologist whose signature appeared on the medical report Blessing CEO was parading. The pathologist, based in Asaba, not Enugu as indicated on the report, unequivocally denied signing the document or having any knowledge of its contents. It was also brought to light that the medical report Blessing presented on TV was the same one previously circulated online, which Blessing herself had claimed she never released after a family threatened legal action for allegedly editing their sister's medical report and replacing the name.
The growing evidence of deception intensified calls for legal action. Actress Georgina Onuoha vociferously demanded Blessing CEO's arrest, condemning her actions as “deeply troubling and outright unacceptable.” Onuoha labeled the fundraising under false pretenses as “fraud” and a “calculated act of financial exploitation,” stressing the necessity of refunding every cent. She further pointed out that the alleged use of a falsified medical report raised serious concerns of forgery and identity misuse, deeming it “criminal.” Onuoha emphasized that such actions undermine public trust and harm genuine patients, urging the Nigeria Police Force and EFCC to investigate and ensure “full restitution and legal accountability.”
In the wake of the Arise TV interview and the mounting pressure for prosecution, Blessing CEO deactivated her Instagram page, which boasted 1.4 million followers. The incident continues to generate significant debate, with critics demanding accountability and supporters awaiting further clarification from Blessing regarding her health status and the disposition of the donations.
