Holiday Heatwave & Storms: Day of Goodwill Weather Warning

For the Day of Goodwill, several provinces in South Africa are bracing for varied weather conditions, ranging from warm and fine to severe thunderstorms and scattered showers. The North West, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Free State are particularly highlighted with their respective forecasts.
In the North West province, the day is anticipated to start fine and warm to hot. However, conditions are expected to shift later, becoming partly cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers, primarily affecting the north-eastern parts. The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms across the province. These storms carry the risk of heavy downpours, which could lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas, vulnerable roads, bridges, and settlements. Additionally, there is a potential for excessive lightning and small hail in certain locations. The provincial capital, Mahikeng, specifically will experience partly cloudy conditions with scattered showers and thundershowers, with temperatures ranging from approximately 18°C to a maximum of about 30°C.
KwaZulu-Natal residents can expect morning fog over the central and western interior. Otherwise, the day will be partly cloudy and cool to warm. Cloud cover is predicted to increase from the afternoon, bringing scattered showers and thundershowers. Along the coast, winds will initially be light to moderate southerly to south-westerly, transitioning to easterly to north-easterly in the southern parts, and then becoming south-easterly from midday. In Durban, the forecast includes partly cloudy conditions with scattered showers and periods of rain. Winds in Durban will be light northerly at first, becoming light to moderate south-easterly from mid-morning. Temperatures in Durban are projected to range from a minimum of around 20°C to a high of about 25°C.
The Free State is set to experience fine and warm to hot weather, with conditions later becoming partly cloudy with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers. These weather patterns are expected across most of the province, with the extreme western parts being an exception. Specific details for Bloemfontein were not fully provided in the input.
