R&B singer Miguel has issued a powerful statement addressing the severe harassment, threats, and racism faced by his family, including specific anti-Asian attacks against his pregnant partner, Margaret Zhang. He emphasized the critical distinction between professional criticism and personal abuse, confirming that legal action is being taken against those who cross ethical boundaries.
Grammy-winning R&B singer Miguel has publicly spoken out against the severe harassment, threats, and racism directed at him and his family. In a lengthy statement posted to social media on Friday (August 28), Miguel detailed the ongoing ordeal, which includes racism, threats, stalking, false allegations, and invasions of privacy. He highlighted that these malicious acts have also extended to his partner, Margaret Zhang, who is currently pregnant with their second child, with specific mention of “anti-Asian attacks” against her, including offensive comments and direct messages, as well as abusive remarks concerning his child.
Miguel articulated his understanding that as a public figure, he is open to certain levels of criticism regarding his career and music. However, he firmly drew a line at the abuse that targets his family life and private affairs. He stated, “People can have opinions about me. about the music. about the work. I accept the realities that come with doing anything in public. But racism, threats, harassment, stalking, invasions of privacy, and targeting of children are abuse. not opinion.”
The 40-year-old artist further emphasized that such behavior does not become acceptable by being disguised as criticism, fandom, speculation, or ‘concern.’ He also placed responsibility on organizations and individuals who knowingly amplify or enable racism, harassment, or false allegations for attention and engagement, cautioning that participation in such acts does not equate to support for him or his community.
Miguel confirmed that legal action has been, and will continue to be, pursued against those who have crossed legal and ethical boundaries. He also took a moment to express profound gratitude to his followers and everyone who has shown his family kindness, dignity, and respect, noting the overwhelming support received in the comment section of his Instagram post. Miguel and Margaret Zhang, who formerly served as the editor-in-chief of Vogue China, welcomed their son, Angel, in 2024 and are anticipating the arrival of their second child.
