Guns N' Roses Unleash Iconic Sound on Explosive New Singles 'Atlas' and 'Nothin'

Guns N’ Roses have delivered an early holiday treat to fans, releasing a pair of new songs, “Nothin’” and “Atlas,” that showcase the band’s iconic stylistic duality. This latest offering follows a series of standalone tracks released by the veteran group over the past few years, providing fresh material after a prolonged period of limited studio output.
The band has historically navigated between singer Axl Rose’s inclination for Elton John-esque florid piano and synth-rock, and a grittier, bombastic hard rock sound, deeply influenced by their metal and punk predecessors. These two new tracks encapsulate both facets of their sound, offering something for every type of GNR enthusiast.
“Nothin’” emerges as a swooning ballad, drawing comparisons to GNR classics like “November Rain” and “Don’t Cry.” It commences with plaintive keyboards as Axl Rose croons introspective lyrics: “There’s nothing I could see/ That would mean more to me/ Than what you are to me/ All my love.” The arrangement gradually builds, incorporating swelling drums and churning electric guitars that ebb and flow. Rose then ascends into his signature high register, delivering a powerful lament about love, redemption, and salvation in moments of solitude. A standout feature is Slash’s bluesy, crying guitar solo, which perfectly complements Rose’s emotional vocals. A particularly moving section at the three-minute mark evokes the iconic guitar intro of Pearl Jam’s “Yellow Ledbetter.” This turbulent four-minute journey culminates with Rose’s desperate wail: “without your love I’ll never make it.”
In stark contrast, “Atlas” immediately asserts a more aggressive posture, launching with a hard-charging rock attack. This track also features another one of Slash’s unmistakable signature solos, appearing around the three-minute mark. Reportedly, “Atlas” was first conceived during the sessions for the band’s long-gestating 2008 album, *Chinese Democracy*, highlighting its deep roots within the band’s creative history.
Both new songs are credited to the full band, with production handled by Axl Rose and Caram Costanzo. Costanzo, who has worked with artists such as Janet Jackson and Rage Against the Machine, also co-produced *Chinese Democracy* alongside Rose. These releases mark the band’s first new tracks since the 2023 pairing of “The General” and “Perhaps,” and the 2021 releases of “Hard Skool” and “Absurd.”
While guitarist Slash recently hinted at “so much” material being available for a new album in an interview with Guitar World, there is currently no definitive word on when the group’s first LP of entirely new material since 1991’s *Use Your Illusion I* and *II* might be released. It’s worth noting that Slash and founding bassist Duff McKagan, who left the group in 1996 and 1997 respectively, rejoined the band in 2016, fueling hopes for more extensive new projects.
Looking ahead, Guns N’ Roses are preparing for a massive 2026 world tour. This extensive tour schedule will include summer stadium and amphitheater dates across North America, in addition to shows planned for South America and Europe, promising fans worldwide an opportunity to experience the band live.
