Gremlins 3 Unleashes Official Release Date, Fans Rejoice for November 2027 Return!

Warner Bros. has officially announced the return of the beloved Gremlins franchise with its newest installment, Gremlins 3, set to hit theaters on November 19, 2027. The news was confirmed by David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, during an investor call highlighting the studio’s focus on reviving iconic titles. This move reflects the company’s commitment to blending nostalgia with modern storytelling, a strategy that continues to deliver success across its film divisions.
The creative lineup behind Gremlins 3 features a strong blend of returning legends and new talent. Steven Spielberg returns as executive producer, maintaining his decades-long connection to the franchise. Meanwhile, Chris Columbus who wrote the original 1984 film will direct and co-produce. The script is being co-written by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, with production led by Kristie Macosko Krieger, Holly Bario, Michael Barnathan, and Mark Radcliffe. While the plot and cast remain under wraps, excitement continues to build for this long-awaited continuation of the mischievous Mogwai saga.
The first Gremlins movie, directed by Joe Dante and released in 1984, became a pop culture phenomenon that redefined horror-comedy and led to the creation of the PG-13 rating. The story follows Billy, who receives a mysterious creature named Gizmo and breaks three crucial rules — never expose it to bright light, water, or feed it after midnight. Chaos ensues as cute Mogwai turn into destructive gremlins, unleashing havoc during Christmas. The original film earned over $212 million globally, while its 1990 sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, became a cult classic despite a modest box office run.
At the heart of the Gremlins universe lie those timeless rules — and the chaos that unfolds when they’re broken. Fans expect Gremlins 3 to revisit these classic elements, likely with a modern twist. Before this new entry, the franchise expanded into animation with Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai and its sequel Gremlins: The Wild Batch on HBO Max, exploring Gizmo’s origins in 1920s Shanghai and deepening the lore behind the furry creature’s mythos.
The revival of Gremlins aligns with Warner Bros.’ impressive theatrical momentum in 2025. Zaslav proudly noted that the studio’s recent lineup including A Minecraft Movie, Sinners, Weapons, and The Conjuring: Last Rites — all opened above $40 million. Warner Bros. has surpassed $4 billion in global box office revenue this year, with hits spanning family-friendly adventures like Minecraft to mature dramas such as Brad Pitt’s F1: The Movie. Even with minor financial setbacks, the studio’s overall outlook remains strong, reaffirming its investment in both original stories and timeless franchises like Gremlins.
