Game of Thrones Prequel Showrunner Highlights George R.R. Martin’s Season 2 Role

The season finale of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms left hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) wrestling with his responsibilities toward his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) following the Trial of Seven.
After the tragic death of Baelor Targaryen (Bertie Carvel), Dunk is consumed by guilt, ultimately agreeing to take Egg along on their journeys while maintaining distance from royalty.
The six-episode first season provides a satisfying conclusion but hints at future adventures, with showrunner Ira Parker confirming that Season 2 is already in production and drawing from George R.R. Martin’s novella, The Sworn Sword.
Martin himself contributes feedback to the series, offering his signature insights to Dunk and Egg’s ongoing story in Westeros.
Parker highlighted the show’s unique position within the broader Game of Thrones universe, recalling initial concerns from an actor’s agent about the budget and visual quality that were ultimately proven unfounded.
Even the finale’s humorous title card underscores the series’ ability to balance Westerosi drama and levity, leaving fans eager for the next chapter.
