Future of Driving Unveiled: 2026 Nissan Rogue Boasts Plug-In Hybrid and One-Pedal Tech

Nissan is expanding its electrified lineup with the 2026 Nissan Rogue Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), marking the first plug-in hybrid variant for its compact SUV in the U.S. market. Scheduled to arrive at the end of 2025, the Rogue PHEV is engineered to deliver a driving experience closer to an all-electric vehicle, building on Nissan’s expertise from models like the Nissan Leaf and Nissan Ariya. This upgrade addresses the vehicle’s 3,600-pound heft and improves upon the previous 1.5-liter turbocharged engine.
Sharing its chassis and powertrain with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the 2026 Rogue combines a 131-hp 2.4-liter I-4 engine with dual electric motors driving the front and rear axles, producing a total of 248 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The system is primarily electric, featuring Nissan’s e-Step one-pedal driving mode, with the engine functioning mainly as a generator to charge the 20-kWh battery pack.
The plug-in hybrid offers an overall range of approximately 420 miles, though charging is limited to J1772 ports, with no DC fast charging support. A Level 2 (220V AC) charge takes roughly 7.5 hours, while a standard 120V outlet requires around 16 hours. The on-demand engine generator helps maintain consistent power even when charging infrastructure is limited.
Inside, the Rogue PHEV introduces a three-row configuration with seating for up to seven, including a versatile 40/20/40 split second row and a two-person third-row bench. Technology highlights include a 9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, and a 10-inch head-up display. Platinum trims add two 120V 1.5-kW power outlets, premium Bose nine-speaker audio, and a 38-mile all-electric range in EV Mode.
Safety features include the Nissan Safety Shield 360, ProPilot Assist 1.1 (Level 2 driver assistance), and an Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection. However, it does not support Level 2+ hands-free driving.
The 2026 Nissan Rogue PHEV SL and Platinum trims will join the non-hybrid lineup in early 2026, with an expected starting price around $40,000, aligning with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Prospective buyers can preview the Rogue PHEV at the 2025 Los Angeles Auto Show from November 21–30.
