Emirates Introduces Crypto Payments for Flight Bookings in UAE

Emirates has officially integrated Crypto.com Pay into its website and mobile app, allowing eligible UAE customers to pay for flight bookings using cryptocurrency. The new payment option is currently available only for bookings priced and settled in Emirati Dirhams (AED) by qualifying UAE residents. The move marks a major step in the airline industry's growing adoption of digital payment technologies.

The rollout follows a partnership announced in July 2025 between Emirates and Crypto.com to explore cryptocurrency payments across the airline's digital platforms. Customers can complete transactions within seconds through the Crypto.com app or by scanning a QR code during checkout, with all payments processed in compliance with UAE regulations. The initiative further strengthens Dubai's position as a global hub for fintech and digital innovation.

Emirates' adoption of crypto payments could influence payment trends across Africa, where the airline operates extensively and cryptocurrency usage continues to grow. Countries such as Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa have seen increasing adoption of digital assets for remittances and business transactions, creating opportunities for the tourism sector. Industry stakeholders may now face growing pressure to explore blockchain-based payment solutions that improve convenience, reduce transaction costs and attract digitally savvy travellers.
