Ferrari Daytona SP3 Fetches Jaw-Dropping $26 Million at Auction, Sets New Record!

A unique and highly coveted Ferrari Daytona SP3, affectionately dubbed the “bumblebee” for its striking black and yellow livery, has set a new record as the highest-priced new Ferrari ever sold at auction. The one-off vehicle, known as chassis number 599+1 or #600, commanded an astounding $26 million (approximately £19.1 million) at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Car Week auction.
This particular Daytona SP3 transcends the already exclusive limited production run of 599 units, which were all pre-sold to Ferrari’s most esteemed clientele before manufacturing began. Designed by Ferrari’s ‘Tailor Made’ customisation division, Daytona #600 is distinguished by its full-length Ferrari logo emblazoned across its body – a first for a Ferrari road car. The exterior’s black and Giallo Modena yellow theme extends to the interior, featuring yellow accents, a checkered flag motif, a silver plaque, and innovative ‘Q-Cycle’ fabric upholstery crafted from recycled tyres.
Beyond its bespoke aesthetics, the Daytona SP3 pays homage to Ferrari’s historic 1-2-3 triumph at the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours. It is powered by a ferocious 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine, unleashing 829 horsepower to the rear wheels. This powerhouse propels the SP3 from 0 to 62 mph in a blistering 2.85 seconds, reaches 125 mph from a standstill in just 7.4 seconds, and boasts a top speed of 211 mph. Ferrari has also described the Daytona SP3 as its “most aerodynamically efficient” road car.
RM Sotheby’s confirmed that the record-breaking sale, which took place on August 16 in California, will see all proceeds benefit The Ferrari Foundation. This public charity is dedicated to supporting future educational initiatives and community projects worldwide, adding a philanthropic dimension to this historic automotive transaction.
