Nigeria’s Falconets produced a stunning attacking display on Sunday, thrashing New Caledonia 10-1 to secure a place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland. This emphatic victory at Stadion Miejski ŁKS Łódź saw Nigeria finish second in Group F on four points, booking a last-16 meeting with Group E winners England, scheduled for Thursday.

The Falconets had entered their final group fixture needing a convincing result after experiencing a 2-0 defeat by Spain and a goalless draw against China PR in their previous matches. They delivered in an emphatic fashion, registering their biggest victory of the tournament and dramatically improving their crucial goal difference, which was vital for progression.

Winner Onajite David was the star of the afternoon, scoring an impressive hat-trick as Nigeria ran riot, particularly in the second half. David opened her account in the 60th minute before adding her second goal 15 minutes later. She then completed her treble in stoppage time, capping off a remarkable individual attacking performance.

Nigeria’s goals came thick and fast after the hour mark, showcasing their dominance. Ramotalahi Kareem struck in the 64th minute, contributing to the growing lead. Tosin Rafiu added Nigeria’s seventh goal in the 70th minute after being skillfully set up by Onyedikachi Ekezie, demonstrating excellent teamwork.
