EXCLUSIVE: 'Survivor' Hits the Big Screen with Animated Movie from Paramount

Paramount Animation, in partnership with CBS, is officially in development on an animated comedy film based on the long-running reality competition series, “Survivor.” Esteemed host Jeff Probst, a five-time Emmy winner for his work on the original show, is set to executive produce this unique cinematic venture. The project promises to transport the beloved competitive format into an entirely new realm, featuring an all-animal cast vying for the ultimate title.

The official synopsis for the animated feature reveals an intriguing premise: “Set on a remote and mystical island, animals from all around the globe compete for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be crowned the sole Survivor.” Jeff Probst himself shared his enthusiasm for the project on Instagram, stating, “I’m so excited to be teaming up with Paramount Animation to bring you Survivor like you’ve never seen it before…in the animal kingdom! This will be an all-out comedy with animals competing for the chance to be crowned the sole Survivor. Let’s go!!!!”

Probst elaborated on the creative vision, explaining that setting the show in the world of animals provides “a whole new playground.” He assured fans that the animated adaptation will retain all the elements they love about “Survivor”—including big personalities, funny characters, surprising alliances, intense competition, thrilling chaos, and a lot of heart—but with the distinctive twist of non-human players. This approach aims to deliver a fresh, comedic take while preserving the essence of the show's strategic and social gameplay.

Jennifer Dodge, who assumed the role of President of Paramount Animation in November, is overseeing this division's latest project. Dodge brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as president of Spin Master, the producers behind the popular “PAW Patrol” franchise, where she managed development, production, and global distribution. Paramount Animation has several other projects underway, including the recently announced Christmas film “The Naughty List” from Robert Rodriguez, and the upcoming “PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie,” scheduled for release on August 14.

The original live-action “Survivor,” produced by Banijay and Amazon MGM, continues its monumental run, currently in production in Fiji for a fall broadcast on CBS. The groundbreaking series, which first debuted in 2000, recently concluded its 50th season with a finale that garnered the most viewership since 2020. In a memorable live finale event, New Hampshire native Aubry Bracco was crowned the 50th season's Sole Survivor, securing a substantial $2 million prize.
