INEC Drops 2027 Election Details: Tinubu, Atiku, Obi's Particulars Publicly Revealed Saturday!

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to publish the personal particulars of all candidates contesting the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections. This vital step is in line with the Commission’s revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election and aims to promote transparency and enable public scrutiny of candidates' information before the polls. The publication will include prominent figures such as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC); former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, running under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC); and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, as the candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The comprehensive display of particulars will cover candidates vying for presidential, senatorial, and House of Representatives seats across Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. This exercise is a statutory requirement, mandated by Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022, which compels INEC to publish candidates’ credentials for public inspection. According to Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, the Commission is required to publish these particulars within 21 days of receiving them, specifically in the constituencies where candidates intend to contest.

For Lagos State, the public display of these documents is scheduled to commence on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Mrs. Esther Emeh, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity for INEC Lagos State, issued a statement confirming that the candidates’ particulars would be exhibited at the INEC Lagos State Office in Sabo-Yaba, as well as at the Commission's Local Government Area offices within the affected constituencies. The documents, contained in Form EC9, detail candidates' credentials, personal information, and affidavits submitted by their respective political parties.

The Electoral Act 2022 further empowers the public to engage with this process. Section 29(4) allows any person to apply to INEC for certified true copies of nomination forms, affidavits, and other submitted documents upon payment of a prescribed fee, with the Commission obligated to issue these copies within 14 days. Moreover, Section 29(5) provides a legal avenue for redress, enabling an aspirant who participated in a political party's primary to challenge in the Federal High Court any false information supplied by a candidate regarding constitutional qualifications, if they have reasonable grounds to believe it is untrue.

This publication follows the successful conclusion of political party primaries and the subsequent submission of nomination forms. As part of ongoing preparations for the 2027 general elections, campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections are slated to begin on August 19, 2026. INEC has reiterated its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections, urging political parties, candidates, civil society organisations, stakeholders, and the general public to actively participate in scrutinizing the displayed documents to ensure electoral integrity.
