Epic Realms Collide! Dungeons & Dragons Announces Star Wars Crossover
Dungeons & Dragons has unveiled its new Universes Beyond initiative, bringing World of Warcraft to the tabletop RPG in 2026 and teasing an official Star Wars crossover for 2027.
For more than 50 years, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) has inspired players to create adventures across iconic fantasy worlds, from the Forgotten Realms to homebrew campaigns. During the D&D Vision Keynote at Gen Con 2026, Wizards of the Coast revealed an ambitious roadmap that includes a brand-new crossover initiative called Universes Beyond.
The new Universes Beyond brand follows the successful model used by Magic: The Gathering, allowing D&D players to experience adventures set in some of entertainment's biggest fictional universes. The initiative marks one of the largest expansions in the tabletop game's history.
The first confirmed crossover will transport players to World of Warcraft's Azeroth through the upcoming D&D: World of Warcraft Gameplay Expansion, scheduled for release on November 17, 2026.
The expansion introduces all 13 World of Warcraft classes, new playable species, dozens of monsters, more than 60 spells, seven dungeons and a wide range of magic items inspired by Blizzard Entertainment's legendary MMORPG.
Wizards of the Coast also surprised fans by revealing D&D | Star Wars: The Season of Rebellion, an official collaboration planned for 2027. While gameplay details remain under wraps, the announcement signals that the galaxy far, far away will soon become part of D&D's growing multiverse of adventures.
The move builds on years of crossover success for Magic: The Gathering's Universes Beyond, which has featured franchises including The Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Warhammer 40,000, Fallout, Final Fantasy, Marvel and Stranger Things. Wizards of the Coast hopes the same strategy will introduce new players to D&D while giving longtime fans fresh worlds to explore.
The announcements were among several major reveals at Gen Con, alongside the return of classic D&D settings such as Dark Sun, Dragonlance and Greyhawk. Together, they represent one of the biggest product roadmaps Wizards of the Coast has unveiled in recent years.
