The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the final list of presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the eagerly anticipated 2027 general election, confirming that eighteen candidates will vie for the nation's highest office. This crucial list, formally signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, provides a clear picture of the political landscape as the country gears up for elections.
Among the notable figures on the presidential ballot are the incumbent President Bola Tinubu, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who will contest under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Also included is former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, a candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Other prominent contenders feature Oyo State Governor Oluseyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Sandy Ojang Onor from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke, who is representing the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
An analysis of the candidate demographics reveals a wide age range for both presidential and vice-presidential hopefuls. Presidential candidates span from 35 to 79 years old, while their running mates range between 35 and 80 years. At 79, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar stands as the oldest presidential candidate, closely followed by President Bola Tinubu, aged 74. On the other end of the spectrum, Moses Adebisi of the Democratic Labour Alliance (DLA) is the youngest presidential candidate at 35 years old.
The list also highlights the participation of women in the electoral process. Two women are among the eighteen presidential candidates: Ada Elizabeth Frederick Okwori of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement (NRM). Furthermore, four women have been nominated as vice-presidential candidates: Peace Egobia for the Action Peoples Party (APP), Nafisat Usaku representing the DLA, Hajja Konto of the Labour Party (LP), and Patience Key for the Young Progressive Party (YPP).

This final publication follows the conclusion of political party primaries, which were held between April 23 and May 30, 2026. The electoral timetable sets the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, with the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for February 6, 2027. This revised election schedule by INEC is a direct consequence of the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026.
