Ebonyi Shocker! Commissioner Stanley Mbam Sacked After Brief Return

Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has announced the removal of Commissioner for Works Stanley Mbam from his position. The decision was conveyed through a Public Service Announcement issued on Saturday by the governor’s chief press secretary, Monday Uzor. Following his removal, Commissioner Mbam was immediately directed to hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the secretary to the State Government. He was also instructed to transfer the responsibilities of the Ministry of Works to the permanent secretary, awaiting further directives from the state government.

The statement announcing Mbam's latest removal did not specify the reasons behind the governor's decision. It emphasized Governor Nwifuru's commitment to delivering effective governance and improving public infrastructure across Ebonyi State. This marks a significant development, especially as it comes about seven months after Mbam had faced a similar disciplinary action.

Previously, on February 28, Governor Nwifuru had indefinitely suspended Mbam, alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Ogbonnaya Abara. That earlier suspension stemmed from concerns regarding the slow pace of infrastructure projects and allegations of dereliction of duty within the Ministry of Works. Three days subsequent to that suspension, Mbam issued a public apology to the governor, accepting responsibility for what he termed 'unmet expectations' and appealing for another opportunity to serve the state.

Governor Nwifuru eventually recalled Mbam and other suspended officials to their posts on May 3, during a Father’s Day service held at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki. Following this reinstatement, Mbam had returned to resume his duties as the Commissioner for Works. His current removal, therefore, represents a renewed and definitive termination of his appointment in the state cabinet.
