DSS Issues Ultimatum to X Over Sowore's Controversial Anti-Tinubu Tweet

The Department of State Services (DSS) of Nigeria has issued an unequivocal demand to X (formerly Twitter) to remove a tweet by activist Omoyele Sowore targeting President Bola Tinubu, giving the social media platform a strict 24-hour ultimatum. The DSS, in a petition dated September 6, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman and CEO of X Corp. in Bastrop County, Texas, claims the tweet is not only disparaging but also poses a significant threat to Nigeria’s national security by creating political tension.
The contentious tweet, posted from Sowore’s verified handle @YeleSowore on August 25, 2025, at approximately 11:38 PM WAT, reads: “This criminal @officialABAT actually went to Brazil to state that there is NO MORE corruption under his regime in Nigeria. What audacity to lie shamelessly!” The DSS stated that these words were personally directed at the President through his official X account and have since garnered widespread condemnation from many Nigerians.
