DocuBay Snags Exclusive Rights to Uncover India's 'Dirty Entertainers' in Revealing New Documentary

DocuBay has officially launched a compelling new original documentary titled “Dirty Entertainers: The Business of Indian Erotica.” This film offers a deep dive into India’s burgeoning erotica sector, specifically examining the significant challenges it faces amidst increasing regulatory scrutiny and content restrictions imposed by various streaming platforms. Directed by Heena Dsouza and produced by HumaraMovie, the documentary endeavors to provide an unfiltered look into an industry often relegated to the margins.
The documentary features candid interviews with several prominent figures within the industry, including Maya Jafar and Rajsi Verma, who share their experiences. It explores the intricate difficulties encountered by performers and content creators who operate in a space grappling with pervasive societal judgment and ongoing censorship issues. The film aims to humanize the individuals involved, moving beyond stereotypes to showcase the people who define this complex industry.
Aditya Pittie, managing director of IN10 Media Network, DocuBay’s parent company, emphasized the network's commitment to creating thought-provoking content on subjects often discussed in hushed tones. He noted that while the glamour of entertainment is frequently highlighted, a vast and complex side remains largely unexplored. Samar Khan, chief operating officer of DocuBay, further elaborated, stating that the film goes beyond mere exploration of erotica to delve into its underlying economics, highlighting the critical intersection of content, commerce, and censorship in an ecosystem that continues to thrive despite societal and regulatory pressures.
“Dirty Entertainers: The Business of Indian Erotica” is a significant collaborative effort between DocuBay’s global streaming platform and HumaraMovie, one of India’s largest independent production houses. Abhishek Gautam, an associate producer at HumaraMovie, underscored the documentary’s role in providing a crucial platform for artists who have rarely had the opportunity to publicly share their perspectives. He acknowledged the invaluable authenticity and depth these real-life experiences brought to the project, emphasizing that DocuBay’s strong global presence was instrumental in bringing this vision to fruition. Director Dsouza highlighted her personal objective, which was to transcend judgment and instead humanize the space by bringing the voices of its participants to the forefront, calling the process an “eye-opening journey.”
The documentary is streaming exclusively on DocuBay, which boasts availability in over 170 countries and can be accessed across a wide range of platforms, including Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, and Samsung TVs. HumaraMovie, the production house behind this documentary, also has a notable slate of other projects, including the Disney+ Hotstar series “Mukesh Jasoos,” the Netflix feature “Jaaon Kahaan Bata Ae Dil,” and the Marathi-language film “Follower,” which premiered at the esteemed International Film Festival Rotterdam.
