Disney's Billion-Dollar Blowout: 'Toy Story 5' Becomes 2026's Biggest Movie

Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 has become the biggest movie of 2026 after surpassing $1 billion at the worldwide box office. According to Box Office Mojo's worldwide box office rankings for Toy Story 5, the animated sequel has earned $1.022 billion globally, overtaking both Michael and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

The milestone also makes Toy Story 5 the third billion-dollar film released this year. Industry analysts say the achievement reinforces Disney's continued dominance in family entertainment.

Released on June 19, the film was produced on a reported $250 million budget and has delivered one of Pixar's strongest theatrical performances in recent years. It is also the third Toy Story film to cross the billion-dollar mark after Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4.

Directed by Andrew Stanton and Kenna Harris, the movie reunites Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear and Joan Cusack as Jessie. New cast additions include Greta Lee, who voices the tech-savvy tablet character, Lilypad.

Critics have also embraced the sequel. On Rotten Tomatoes' Toy Story 5 page, the film holds a 92% Certified Fresh critics' score, with reviewers praising its modern take on children's growing relationship with technology.

Although the latest installment trails Pixar's biggest-ever hits such as Inside Out 2 and Incredibles 2, it has already surpassed the worldwide totals of animated classics including Finding Nemo, Shrek 2, Despicable Me 2, Despicable Me 4, Minions: The Rise of Gru and the original The Lion King.

The success further strengthens Disney's box office dominance, adding another billion-dollar title to the studio's expanding collection of global blockbusters. Analysts believe the film's strong family appeal and nostalgic fan base have helped it become the standout theatrical release of 2026.
