DCU Exclusive: Suicide Squad Star Awaits James Gunn's Call for Epic Return!

Daniela Melchior, who won widespread acclaim for her role as Ratcatcher 2 in James Gunn’s 2022 superhero film The Suicide Squad, has spoken candidly about the possibility of returning under the new DC Universe (DCU). The Portuguese actress admitted she remains hopeful and ready, revealing, “I’m waiting for them to call me. I’m just patiently waiting,” a remark that has reignited speculation among DC fans eager to see the character again.
Directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad marked a creative reset for the franchise, blending irreverent humor with emotional depth. While returning stars like Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag Jr. provided continuity, the film’s success was driven largely by its new characters, including Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, John Cena’s Peacemaker, and Melchior’s Ratcatcher 2 — whose warmth and vulnerability became one of the film’s highlights.
Speaking with Collider at the premiere of her upcoming film Anaconda, Melchior openly entertained the idea of reprising Ratcatcher 2 in a DCU streaming project. She expressed particular interest in appearing in HBO Max originals such as Peacemaker or Lanterns, joking that she has been “manifesting” the opportunity. “Just let it. Let’s light a candle,” she said, reinforcing her enthusiasm for a potential return.
Gunn’s history of working repeatedly with actors he trusts has further fueled optimism. Melchior previously appeared in a small role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn’s MCU farewell, suggesting a continued professional rapport. Industry observers believe this makes Ratcatcher 2’s reappearance less a question of feasibility and more a matter of timing, as Gunn carefully maps out the DCU’s evolving direction.
Away from DC, Melchior’s career momentum continues to build. She stars in the upcoming Anaconda reboot, scheduled for a Christmas theatrical release, alongside Jack Black, Paul Rudd, and Steve Zahn. Since her breakout role in The Suicide Squad, she has also appeared in Fast X, Road House (2024), and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, solidifying her status as a rising presence in major studio productions and keeping her firmly on Hollywood’s radar.
