Crucial Lifelines: SASSA Unveils June Payment Dates for Children, Elderly, and Disabled

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially confirmed the payment dates for various social grants in June, ensuring beneficiaries can access their much-needed funds in a staggered and organized manner. This monthly cycle prioritizes different groups, starting with older persons, followed by disability grant recipients, and concluding with children's grants.

Older persons are the first group to receive their social grants, with the payment date set for 2 June. SASSA consistently prioritizes beneficiaries aged 60 and above who qualify for the Older Persons Grant, providing them with early access to their money to reduce financial stress at the start of the month. These beneficiaries have multiple convenient channels for collection, including withdrawing from any SASSA-approved ATM, visiting a retail pay point at major supermarkets, or collecting from a post office branch. Those utilizing SASSA Gold Cards are advised to ensure their cards are active before the payment date.

Disability grant recipients will receive their payments on 3 June, one day after older persons. This grant is designed to support South African citizens and permanent residents between the ages of 18 and 59 who live with a certified physical or mental disability that prevents them from financially supporting themselves. To qualify, beneficiaries must undergo a medical assessment and meet the SASSA means test requirements. SASSA encourages grant beneficiaries to use cashless payment methods where possible, with funds accessible through SASSA-linked bank accounts and major retail pay points. Individuals whose grants are under review should contact SASSA promptly to avoid any disruption in their June payment.

Finally, all children’s grants are scheduled for payment on 4 June. This date encompasses the Child Support Grant, the Foster Child Grant, and the Care Dependency Grant. Parents, foster parents, and caregivers who look after qualifying children can access their funds from this date. The Child Support Grant assists low-income caregivers raising children under 18, while the Foster Child Grant supports South Africans caring for children placed in their custody by a court order. The Care Dependency Grant provides financial assistance to caregivers of children with severe physical or mental disabilities requiring full-time care. Funds for these grants can be collected at any SASSA-approved pay point, ATM, or retail outlet across South Africa.
