Country King Luke Combs Shatters Records, Dominates Airplay Charts at #1 and #2

Luke Combs has once again achieved a historic milestone on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, securing the top two positions simultaneously with “Sleepless in a Hotel Room” and “Days Like These” on the ranking dated May 2. “Sleepless in a Hotel Room” maintained its No. 1 spot for a third consecutive week, garnering 32.3 million audience impressions (a nearly 1% increase), while “Days Like These” ascended two places to No. 2 with a total of 29.9 million impressions (up 15%) during the April 17-23 tracking period, according to Luminate.
Combs remains the sole artist to have placed two titles without any billed collaborators in the top two simultaneously, achieving this remarkable feat for the second time. His previous double-up occurred in September 2023, when “Love You Anyway” led the chart and “Fast Car” followed at No. 2. Other prominent artists, Morgan Wallen and Luke Bryan, have come close to this achievement but with collaborations. Wallen reached Nos. 1 and 2 in 2024 with “Cowgirls” (featuring ERNEST) and “I Had Some Help” (with lead artist Post Malone). Similarly, Bryan accomplished a similar feat in 2014 with his own “Play It Again” and his collaboration with Florida Georgia Line, “This Is How We Roll.”
In other chart news, Ontario, Canada-born and Nashville-based artist Josh Ross earned his second Country Airplay top 10 entry as “Hate How You Look” jumped from No. 15 to No. 10, accumulating 17 million audience impressions (a 14% increase). His inaugural top 10 entry, “Single Again,” achieved the tier in its 60th week before peaking at No. 2 eight weeks later. Notably, his latest single reached the top 10 in roughly half that time, taking just 31 weeks.
Industry professionals have lauded Ross’s recent success. Marci Braun, brand manager of Audacy’s WUSN-FM Chicago, commented to Billboard that “Hate How You Look” has been “incredibly solid since the end of February” and has “consistently ranked in the top 10.” Rich Davis, program director of iHeartMedia’s KEEY-FM Minneapolis, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Josh hasn’t missed for us.”
Additionally, Stella Lefty made her debut on the Country Airplay chart with her song “Boston,” entering at No. 53 with 1.2 million audience impressions. This marks the first appearance on the chart for Atlantic Outpost, a label launched last summer with a dedicated focus on singer-songwriters.
