Malawi's Second Vice President, Enock Kamzingeni Chihana, received a distinguished full ceremonial send-off on Tuesday at King Shaka International Airport in Durban. This significant event marked the conclusion of his successful leadership of Malawi's high-level delegation at the 46th SADC Heads of State and Government Summit, a crucial regional gathering held in South Africa.
President Arthur Peter Mutharika personally selected Vice President Chihana to represent Malawi, underscoring the importance of the nation's participation in the summit. Chihana arrived in South Africa accompanied by an impressive contingent of senior officials, which included the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation George Chaponda, Minister of Defence Feston Kaupa, Principal Secretary for Defence Gift Dulla, and the Head of Communication Kelvin Mposa Tchali.
The send-off was a fitting end to his diplomatic mission, with full ceremonial honours bestowed upon him before his departure. A notable highlight was his inspection of a Guard of Honour, meticulously mounted by the South African Army directly on the tarmac. This striking display symbolized the significance of Malawi's active role and contributions at this year's summit.
A distinguished party had assembled to bid farewell to Vice President Chihana. Among those present were Malawi's High Commissioner to South Africa, Stella Ndau, and KwaZulu-Natal Province Member of the Executive Council for Social Development, Mbali Shinga, along with various other senior officials, all gathered to acknowledge his impactful representation.
Following his departure from Durban, Vice President Chihana was scheduled to continue his journey to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, where he would connect for his final leg home. He is anticipated to arrive back in Malawi at Bakili Muluzi International Airport on Thursday, August 20, bringing his successful diplomatic engagement to a close.
