Chicago Festivals Soaked: Midday Showers Dampen Columbian Fest & Taste of River North
Chicago experienced temporary morning and midday showers on Saturday, which briefly dampened several outdoor events across the city. Despite the rain, the spirit of festival-goers and participants remained high, with many events quickly resuming once the precipitation passed.
Among the affected gatherings were the highly anticipated Race to Mackinac, Burger Fest, the Colombian Fest in Humboldt Park, and the Taste of River North. At Navy Pier, spectators gathered to watch boats set sail for the Race to Mackinac, undeterred by the incoming clouds and muggy conditions. Kristin Daus, a spectator, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "It's a nice day, and we thought we'd come down and see them off." She joined others in cheering on the boaters, emphasizing the community's support for the event.
While the first beers were being poured at Ravenswood on Tap, showers also affected the Colombian Fest. However, the music and dancing continued uninterrupted at the Taste of River North. Jeannine Ringland of Giveashirt, a vendor, noted, "Getting a little rained on, but that's alright," expressing gratitude for her waterproof tent with sides, which provided shelter. Her resilience mirrored that of many attendees who refused to let the weather spoil their plans.
Fortunately, the showers across Chicago proved to be short-lived. The city began drying out, and the rain, much like a boat sailing past Navy Pier, was soon gone. This swift recovery allowed the events to continue, demonstrating Chicagoans' determination to enjoy their summer festivals and activities, even with a temporary interruption from the weather.
