Chaos in UAE: Stranded Students and Soaring Evacuation Costs

Kenyan citizens residing and working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have begun returning to Kenya, with many arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on March 6, 2026. These evacuees have described their experiences in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai as 'terrifying,' a direct consequence of the US-Israel war against Iran, which reportedly began on February 28.
In light of the escalating situation and ongoing concerns, Kenya Airways made a significant announcement regarding its operations. The national carrier suspended its repatriation flight scheduled for Friday, March 6, 2026, which was intended to travel to and from Dubai. This decision was based on critical security guidance issued directly by Dubai Airport authorities.
In a statement released on the day of the suspension, Kenya Airways affirmed its commitment to passenger and crew safety as its utmost priority. The airline emphasized that the suspension was a necessary measure taken in strict adherence to these security advisories. Customers who were scheduled on the affected flights have been advised to check their flight status regularly through the airline's official website for the latest updates. Additionally, individuals requiring further assistance or information are encouraged to contact the Kenya-UAE consulate.
