Cannes Shocker! A24 Snags 'Club Kid' in Fierce $17 Million Bidding War!

A24 has officially secured the worldwide distribution rights to Jordan Firstman’s dramedy “Club Kid” in a landmark deal at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film, an official selection of the festival, commanded a significant $17 million sale, concluding a fervent bidding war that unfolded over the weekend in the South of France.
“Club Kid” marks Jordan Firstman’s directorial debut, with Firstman also starring in the film. The plot centers on a party promoter who, having long surpassed his relevancy on the scene, is abruptly confronted with adulthood when his estranged 10-year-old son unexpectedly arrives at his doorstep. This forces him to make a crucial choice: embrace fatherhood and enter the adult world, or continue his carefree lifestyle.
The project was financed and produced by Topic Studios, with Stay Gold also contributing as a co-financier. The accomplished production team includes Academy Award-winner Alex Coco, known for “Anora,” and Galen Core of “Lurker.” Topic’s Ryan Heller, recognized for “A Real Pain” and “Splitsville,” and Michael Bloom also served as producers. Executive producers for the film include Jordan Firstman himself, alongside Ian Stratford, Charles Croft, Jasmine Daghighian for Topic, Olmo Schnabel, and Topic’s Daniela Taplin.
The bidding for “Club Kid” was highly competitive, with initial seven-figure offers from major players such as Mubi, Focus Features, Searchlight, A24, and Netflix. The price quickly escalated, ultimately reaching the substantial $17 million figure. While Warner Bros.’ new indie label Clockwork showed early interest before bowing out, and Neon was a potential suitor, its already packed 2026 slate reportedly prevented it from actively pursuing the film. The sale was managed by UTA, with international assistance from Charades.
This acquisition is particularly noteworthy as the first major sale at the current Cannes Film Festival. Its success stands out in a market often characterized by Hollywood star power or blockbuster presence, and further, in a festival where a considerable number of titles arrived with pre-existing distribution. “Club Kid” thus represents a significant breakthrough, highlighting the market’s appetite for compelling independent cinema.
