Subaru Rolls Out Stunning Throwback Editions for WRX and BRZ

Subaru is set to commemorate significant U.S. anniversaries for two of its iconic performance vehicles, the WRX and BRZ, with the introduction of exclusive 2027 special editions. These models, dubbed the 2027 WRX GD25 and 2027 Subaru BRZ ZC15, are designed to pay homage to the original chassis codes that defined these cars when they first arrived in the U.S. 25 and 15 years ago, respectively. Both limited-edition vehicles will feature upgraded hardware, unique styling cues, and classic chassis-code-inspired aesthetics.

The 2027 Subaru WRX GD25 serves as a tribute to the "GD" chassis code that accompanied the WRX's U.S. debut a quarter-century ago. Production of this special edition is strictly limited to 350 units. It boasts distinctive 19-inch gold-painted aluminum wheels, shod with high-performance Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires, and features Brembo brakes with gold-painted calipers for superior stopping power. A carbon-fiber wing, identical to that found on Travis Pastrana’s WRX ARA25L rally car, adorns the rear, underscoring its performance pedigree.

Under the hood, the WRX GD25 retains the powerful 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine, delivering 271 horsepower. However, Subaru has implemented several chassis upgrades to enhance its dynamic capabilities on winding roads. These include a strut-tower bar for improved rigidity and a performance-tuned suspension system featuring stiffer springs and revised damping calibration, promising a more planted feel without compromising everyday usability. Inside, the cabin receives Recaro seats with Ultrasuede inserts and red contrast stitching, complemented by an STI shift knob. This special edition is exclusively offered with a six-speed manual transmission, solidifying its appeal to driving enthusiasts seeking a closer-to-STI experience. Expect the limited-edition WRX GD25 to become available in the U.S. next summer.

Concurrently, the 2027 Subaru BRZ ZC15 celebrates the BRZ's 15-year presence in the U.S., referencing its original "ZC" chassis code from its 2012 launch. This edition is even more exclusive, with a production run of just 300 units. It will be finished solely in Ceramic White and features striking matte-bronze wheels, gold-painted Brembo calipers, and distinctive bronze decals positioned near the side sills—a color scheme reminiscent of the 2020 BRZ tS. Exterior enhancements continue with a black decklid spoiler and a flexible V-bar under the hood, creating a special yet understated aesthetic.

The BRZ ZC15 maintains its engaging driving dynamics with a 2.4-liter boxer engine producing 228 horsepower, paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, honoring the model’s pure sports car formula. The interior showcases unique black leather upholstery alongside Bordeaux Red inserts, a combination previously unseen in the BRZ. An anniversary-edition ZC15 plaque further distinguishes this limited model. The 2027 Subaru BRZ ZC15 is slated for availability in early 2027. Pricing details for both the WRX GD25 and BRZ ZC15 will be released closer to their respective launch dates.
