A group of twenty-first-term governors in Nigeria has unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office, looking ahead to the 2027 general elections. This significant decision was reached during a meeting held at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State, as announced in a communique issued shortly after their gathering.
Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu of Kebbi State, reading from the communique, emphasized that the endorsement was rooted in a spirit of patriotism, responsibility, accountability, and national duty. The governors expressed a collective commitment to promoting stability, ensuring the continuity of President Tinubu’s ongoing reforms, and fostering inclusive national development across the country.
The first-term governors articulated their firm belief that the reforms currently being implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are crucial and necessary to effectively address the long-standing fiscal, security, productivity, and development challenges that Nigeria has faced over many years. They underscored their conviction that Nigeria requires a courageous leader of President Tinubu’s caliber to guarantee policy continuity and to strengthen collaboration between the federal government and state governments.
The communique explicitly stated, “Therefore, we declare our total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the continuity of the renowned hope agenda beyond 2027.” This support is also anchored on the understanding that the nation requires a comprehensive development agenda that actively rewards production, encourages enterprises, boosts agriculture, fosters innovation, and recognizes hard work among its citizens.
Beyond the endorsement, the governors also used the platform to voice strong condemnations. They unequivocally condemned the persistent attacks on Nigerians residing in South America. Furthermore, they expressed profound anger and concern over the escalating incidents of attacks and kidnappings targeting students, worshippers, and other innocent citizens within Nigeria itself. While urging residents in their respective states to maintain calm, the governors collectively pledged to take decisive and bold steps to reduce banditry attacks, kidnappings, and killings that continue to plague various states across the nation.
