A highly anticipated heavyweight boxing match between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is reportedly nearing confirmation, with a proposed date of December 11 and the Principality Stadium in Cardiff as the likely venue. Permits and final arrangements are said to be the remaining hurdles before an official announcement, which could come later this month. The December 11 date emerged as the preferred option after alternative dates of November 28 and December 4 were considered, and Fury is reportedly the final party expected to approve the latest changes.
The blockbuster bout is anticipated to have a late start, beginning around 2 am UK time on December 12. This scheduling is designed to accommodate broadcast schedules for Netflix and the United States audience. The Principality Stadium in Cardiff typically operates under a 10:30 pm curfew, while Wembley Stadium, another venue under consideration, has an 11 pm curfew. Reports indicate that the Welsh Government is actively considering an exemption to this curfew, though approval is still pending. Notably, the Principality Stadium has a precedent for hosting fights that extend into the early hours, as seen with Joe Calzaghe’s victory over Mikkel Kessler in 2007.

Their preference stemmed from the belief that a US-hosted fight could generate a larger audience and greater revenue. However, Anthony Joshua’s contract reportedly stipulated that the bout must take place in the United Kingdom, a position that both Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, firmly refused to alter.
Hearn explicitly addressed the dispute, stating to iFL TV, “That is why, unfortunately for these people, the fight will not be taking place in America, because Anthony Joshua is not a sell-out.” He further claimed that Joshua could have earned considerably more by fighting in the United States, but cited the strong support received on social media as reinforcing their decision to keep the fight in the UK. Hearn also dismissed criticism from Dana White, asserting, “Dana White has tried to get involved in a fight that he has nothing to do with. All we have ever done is say, ‘We have signed our contract. Just honour the contract that we have signed.’”
