GOAT’ Tops Box Office, Narrowly Beating ‘Wuthering Heights

The North American box office over the winter weekend saw family-friendly animation triumph, while international appeal continued to drive global grosses.

Wuthering Heights followed with $14.2M domestically, a 57% decline, but excelled internationally with $26.3M, bringing its global total to $151.7M, with key markets including the UK ($22.5M), Italy ($9.4M), and Australia ($8.3M).

I Can Only Imagine 2 opened in third with $8M from 3,105 venues, earning an “A+” CinemaScore despite a slower start than its 2018 predecessor.

How to Make a Killing debuted sixth with $3.5M from 1,600 screens and received lukewarm critical reception (47% Rotten Tomatoes).

EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert impressed in seventh place with $3.2M from only 325 Imax screens, leveraging never-before-seen footage and Baz Luhrmann’s direction.

Meanwhile, Psycho Killer struggled at No. 11 with $1.6M, and Crime 101 grossed $6.2M internationally, underperforming versus its $90M budget.

China’s Pegasus 3 dominated the New Year box office, surpassing $200M.

Analysts note that North American revenues remain at 5% below 2025’s total, affected by winter weather and market conditions.

However, anticipation is high for upcoming releases: Scream 7, Pixar’s Hoppers, The Bride! spinoff, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are all expected to reinvigorate the box office in March–April 2026.
