The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially confirmed that the government is not providing any financial backing for the Black Stars' current international friendly matches during their Asia tour. This tour is a crucial part of the senior national team's preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which are set to commence next year.

The Black Stars are scheduled to participate in two friendly fixtures. The first will see them face Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup on Friday, November 14, 2025. Following this, they will travel to Seoul to play South Korea on Monday, November 18, 2025. These dates align with the specific training and logistical details provided, even though some mentions of "next year" for qualifiers could imply the current year for the friendlies if not for the explicit "2025" for the Kirin Challenge Cup.

Henry Asante Twum, the GFA Communications Director, clarified the funding situation on Asempa FM's Ultimate Sports Show. He stated that while the Ministry of Sports and Recreation was duly informed about the tour, both matches are being entirely financed by the host nations, Japan and South Korea. "The games will be funded by the two teams that invited the Black Stars; we did not take any money from the ministry," Asante Twum explained. He further added, "Even though the GFA President informed the sector minister of these matches, there is no funding from their end. They gave us their blessing to proceed, but without financial support."

Regarding player remuneration, Mr. Asante Twum emphasized that players would not receive the standard winning bonuses typically associated with competitive fixtures. Instead, they will be compensated with daily allowances, known as per diems, for the duration of their stay in Asia. "There will be no winning bonuses; only the agreed per diem between the GFA and the players," he confirmed. This arrangement is consistent with the GFA’s established policy for friendly matches, which are viewed primarily as technical and tactical exercises aimed at team development rather than financially incentivized competitions.

Head coach Otto Addo has assembled a 22-man squad for the Asia tour. The team commenced its first training session in Nagoya, Japan, on Wednesday, November 12, with 19 players actively participating. Notable players present included Joseph Anang, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Derrick Kohn, Jerome Opoku, Ebenezer Annan, Jonas Adjetey, Kojo Oppong Peprah, Caleb Yirenkyi, Alidu Seidu, Gideon Mensah, Abu Francis, Kwasi Sibo, Prince Owusu, Kamal Deen Sulemana, Antoine Semenyo, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Kelvin Nkrumah, Prince Adu Kwabena, and Christopher Bonsu Baah. The remaining members of the squad were expected to join the team before Friday’s fixture. The Black Stars were scheduled to hold their official training at the Toyota Stadium in Aichi on Thursday, November 13.

Coach Otto Addo expressed confidence in his team's ability to perform well against Japan. Despite acknowledging the challenge, he stated, "It will be difficult for us, but I know we also have the strength to beat Japan." This fixture will mark the third encounter between the Black Stars and the Samurai Blue since 2018, with a previous match three years ago seeing Japan defeat Ghana 4-1 under Addo's management. Friday's clash against Japan is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. GMT at the Toyota Stadium, while the subsequent game against South Korea will take place four days later in Seoul.
