Billie Eilish Ignites Controversy: Calls ICE a 'Terrorist Group' After Minneapolis Shooting

Pop star Billie Eilish is utilizing her platform to condemn the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old Minnesota woman, by an ICE officer. The incident occurred during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis on January 7, prompting Eilish to share multiple posts criticizing the agency on January 9.
Eilish's online activism included resharing a graphic that labeled ICE as a “federally funded and supported terrorist group,” with the original creator accusing the agency of “tearing apart families, terrorizing citizens, and now murdering innocent people.” Another post shared by Eilish called for the country to “abolish ICE,” highlighting a list of 32 individuals reportedly deceased while in ICE custody the previous year. Furthermore, she encouraged U.S. citizens to contact their congressional representatives to demand the defunding of ICE and the immediate arrest and charging of the officer responsible for the deadly shooting in Minneapolis.
The controversy surrounding ICE's operations has significantly escalated, particularly regarding its actions under the Donald Trump administration, which the input notes have been polarizing since he took office “a year ago.” The backlash reached an “all-time high” in the wake of the Minneapolis incident.
Conflicting accounts emerged regarding the shooting. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the president, and another high-ranking official asserted that Renee Nicole Good attempted to run over agents with her car, leading the officer to act in self-defense. However, widely circulated video footage of the incident contradicted these claims, showing Good driving in the opposite direction. Even Donald Trump, after personally viewing the video in the Oval Office, reportedly found the scene “terrible” and “horrible to watch,” as per a New York Times reporter present.
Eilish has a consistent history of vocal opposition to Donald Trump's policies. She previously endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election and had also condemned earlier ICE raids conducted in her home city of Los Angeles.
