Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms Epic Return to Action Fantasy After 42 Years!

Decades after his iconic debut, Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return as the legendary barbarian in "King Conan," a long-awaited sequel to "Conan the Barbarian" and "Conan the Destroyer." After years of extensive development, Schwarzenegger confirmed that filming for the project is expected to commence in 2027. This exciting news marks a significant step forward for fans who have eagerly anticipated the return of the Austrian Oak to one of his most defining roles.
Adding to the anticipation, renowned filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie, known for his work on the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, is slated to direct "King Conan." Schwarzenegger revealed, through TheArnoldFans, that the timing for this sequel is crucial, explaining that the concept wouldn't have resonated immediately after the original films. The core idea behind "King Conan" is to revisit the character decades later, presenting an older, wiser, and more self-reflective monarch. "The movie wouldn’t have worked after I did the first Conan because the whole idea of King Conan is that for 40 years he has been king, he is older now. He is no longer in the shape he was from his heyday and now people are trying to take him out. He’s the king and he gets a little bit complacent. He’s tired of the job and he wants to move on," Schwarzenegger elaborated, drawing a comparison to Clint Eastwood's classic Western, "The Unforgiven," but promising "extraordinary battles."
The journey to bring "King Conan" to fruition has been a lengthy one. Fredrik Malmberg of Conan Properties International, who serves as a producer on the film, confirmed that a deal between CPI, Schwarzenegger, and Twentieth Century Fox has been successfully completed, solidifying the project's path forward. Schwarzenegger himself expressed his excitement, stating, "Next year we are going to do King Conan. So that is a reality now and I am excited about it." He also voiced his desire to have John Milius, the director of the original "Conan the Barbarian," involved as a producer, hoping it "will be really fantastic."
The original "Conan the Barbarian," released on May 14, 1982, was a seminal film in fantasy cinema, directed by John Milius with a script co-written by Milius, Oliver Stone, Robert E. Howard, and Edward Summer. It featured Arnold Schwarzenegger in the titular role, alongside a memorable cast including James Earl Jones as Thulsa Doom, Sandahl Bergman as Valeria, Gerry Lopez as Subotai, Mako as Akiro, Max von Sydow as King Osric, and Cassandra Gava as the Witch. Its success was pivotal in establishing Schwarzenegger as a leading man.
Beyond the highly anticipated return of King Conan, Collider also engages its audience with interactive content, such as the "Sci-Fi Survival Quiz." This quiz challenges readers to determine which of five iconic science fiction universes—The Matrix, Mad Max, Blade Runner, Dune, or Star Wars—their instincts are best suited to survive. Through eight thought-provoking questions covering instinct, resources, threats, authority, environment, alliances, morality, and purpose, the quiz assesses individual traits and provides tailored results, detailing why one might thrive in Zion's Resistance, the Wasteland, the rain-soaked streets of Los Angeles 2049, the merciless desert of Arrakis, or amidst the rebellion in a galaxy far, far away. This unique feature offers an introspective look into personal survival strategies within beloved fictional worlds.
