Angola Charges Ahead: New Event Tourism Strategy Launched at Major Fair
Angola has made a significant debut at the IMEX Frankfurt fair in Germany, aiming to consolidate business partnerships within the event tourism sector and attract new international contacts. Participating under the brand "Meet in Angola the meeting room in Africa," the country is strategically positioning itself to become a prominent destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) on the African continent.
The second day of the fair was particularly productive for the Angolan delegation, led by the Minister of Tourism, Márcio Daniel. The agenda focused heavily on presenting Angola's recently approved national strategy for the MICE segment. Minister Daniel and his team engaged in crucial meetings with international MICE market operators, showcasing Angola's capabilities to host large-scale events and, in turn, stimulate various sectors of its national economy. Additionally, Wednesday's schedule included a press conference for a pre-assessment of Angola's inaugural participation, a gala dinner, and extensive networking sessions to foster new connections.
Angola's presence at IMEX Frankfurt is bolstered by a strong contingent of national exhibitors, highlighting the country's diverse offerings in event services and hospitality. These include Karga Eventos, Arena Eventos, HCTA, Luanda Protocol Palace, Hotel Intercontinental, Epic Sanae, and Lelu Tour travel agency. Through these entities, Angola aims to share its rich tourism potential with leading global tourism destinations such as France, Spain, the United States of America, Italy, Turkey, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, and Brazil. The fair also features other African nations, including Mozambique, South Africa, Uganda, Rwanda, and Morocco, underscoring the continent's growing prominence in the global tourism landscape.
IMEX Frankfurt, established in 2003, is widely recognized as one of the world's foremost showcases for the event tourism industry. It functions as a strategic meeting point, connecting destinations with international investors, global operators, and corporations with substantial purchasing power. For Angola, this debut represents a pivotal positioning milestone, utilizing the fair's status as a premier global business platform in the MICE segment. Angola's overarching objectives for its participation are to attract foreign investment, vigorously develop its MICE sector, and successfully secure major international events for the nation.
The fair provides robust tools designed to maximize business opportunities for all participants. A key feature is the "Hosted Buyer Program," an exclusive initiative that finances travel and accommodation for qualified buyers and influential industry figures who possess the budget and intention to finalize international deals. Another crucial component is the "Meeting Platform," which allows for the pre-scheduling of face-to-face meetings with major hotel chains, airlines, and technology providers. Furthermore, the "Education and Networking" package offers global panels where developing countries, including Angola, can acquire effective strategies to attract competitive tourism investments.
The scale of IMEX Frankfurt underscores its global significance. The 2025 event reportedly attracted over 13,000 participants, including 4,466 buyers from 97 countries, alongside 2,900 exhibiting companies, resulting in approximately 67,000 scheduled meetings. The 23rd Edition of IMEX 2026 Frankfurt continues to feature a wide array of companies from various sectors, such as hotels, event organizers, convention centers, conference promoters, event agencies, airlines, and cruise operators, offering unparalleled opportunities for exploring exclusive offers, cutting-edge solutions, and new business ventures for all attendees, including debutant Angola.
