AMVCA12 Cultural Night: Celebs Unleash Stunning Regal Fashion

The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA 12) commenced its weekend festivities with a highly anticipated Cultural Night on May 8th, 2026. This event served as a vibrant celebration of the diverse heritage that defines the African continent, offering a platform for guests to pay homage to their roots through spectacular fashion. From regal traditional attire to richly detailed cultural looks from various parts of Nigeria, the night was a grand display of heritage, style, and craftsmanship.
Among the standout attendees were Nollywood power couple Ibrahim and Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, who perfectly embodied a coordinated “Prince and Princess” look representing their Edo heritage from the South-South. Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman captivated in a wine-coloured velvet corset-style dress, exquisitely detailed with floral lace and sequins across the bodice and skirt. Her hair was styled into a traditional Edo Okuku, a striking coral-beaded crown fixed into a high bun, complemented by layers of authentic coral bead necklaces, matching earrings, and a beaded Uwenrhien-Otan.
Ibrahim Suleiman, a true Edo man, stayed true to his roots in a majestic white long-sleeved robe featuring dark embroidery across the chest. He accessorized with a long string of coral beads, beaded bracelets, and a matching orange-coral velvet cap that elegantly linked their ensembles. Dark sunglasses and a leather strap watch completed his sophisticated traditional Edo menswear, often seen holding a carved traditional staff, signifying royalty and deep cultural connection.
Adding to the magnificent display of culture were stars from Big Brother Naija Season 10, who arrived showcasing a wide array of regional styles from Edo, Ijaw, and Yoruba to Northern Nigerian royalty.
- Dede (Delta State): Representing the beauty and modern heritage of Delta State, Dede chose a wine-coloured velvet corset dress with floral lace and a dramatic floor-length silk cape. She described her attire as a reflection of modern heritage and pride, honoring storytellers and filmmakers.
- Kaybobo (Yoruba): Inspired by the “ÒKÍN” (peacock), the king of birds, Kaybobo arrived showcasing Yoruba luxury. His vibrant green and purple Aso-Oke Agbada, paired with green glass beads, powerfully symbolized royalty and an undeniable presence.
- Imisi (Yoruba): The BBNaija S10 winner, Imisi, was wrapped in Adire and crowned in cowries. She articulated that her blue and white gown, featuring a woven mat on the shoulders, symbolized the wealth and identity of a daughter of Yoruba soil, emphasizing that culture is something carried, not merely worn.
- Jason Jae (Northern Royalty): Jason Jae brought the regal essence of Northern royalty to the event. He donned a black velvet floor-length robe with intricate gold braided edges and a fur-lined shoulder, completing his majestic look with a translucent gold face veil and a feathered Zanna cap, often accompanied by a ceremonial staff.
- Mensan Awaji Malachi James (Ijaw Prince): Mensan proudly carried the culture of the Nigerian Delta as an Ijaw Prince. His attire comprised a black and silver brocade long robe with traditional George fabric draped over the shoulder, finished with a distinguished red and gold crown and authentic coral beads.
- Shaun Okojie (Edo): Staying true to his Edo roots, Shaun made a grand entrance announcing, “The Omo N’Oba has arrived.” He wore a white long-sleeved tunic beneath a wine-coloured velvet robe adorned with gold embroidery, accessorized with a single strand of coral beads.
The AMVCA 12 Cultural Night was a profound celebration of Nigerian and African heritage, with each celebrity meticulously presenting their cultural roots through elaborate and meaningful fashion statements, setting a high standard for the entire awards weekend.
