Super Eagles Striker Tolu Arokodare Joins Ajax on Loan from Wolves

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has completed a season-long loan move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Dutch giants Ajax, becoming the latest Nigerian international to wear the famous Amsterdam club's colours.

Ajax confirmed the signing in an official statement, announcing that the Nigerian forward has joined on loan until the summer of 2027 with an option to make the move permanent.

The agreement sees Ajax cover Arokodare's full wages during the loan spell, while paying Wolverhampton Wanderers a loan fee. The deal also includes a non-mandatory purchase option, reportedly worth around €22 million.

According to Reuters' transfer report, Wolves could also receive additional performance-related bonuses if Ajax qualify for European competition during Arokodare's time in Amsterdam.

Speaking after completing the move, Arokodare described joining Ajax as a dream come true.

"I'm currently a player of Ajax. It's just an amazing feeling... I never imagined it, but it's an amazing feeling," the striker said after his unveiling.

The Nigerian international also praised Ajax's rich football history, saying many legendary strikers have represented the club and expressing his desire to score goals, win matches and help return the Dutch side to the top of the Eredivisie.

Arokodare arrives in Amsterdam after a difficult debut campaign with Wolves. Although he scored six goals across league and cup competitions, injuries and limited opportunities affected his first season in English football.

Before Ajax secured his signature, the striker had attracted interest from clubs in Italy and Turkey, but the Dutch giants ultimately won the race for his services.

The move continues Nigeria's proud tradition at Ajax. Arokodare follows former Super Eagles stars Finidi George, Nwankwo Kanu, Christopher Kanu, Sunday Oliseh, Tijani Babangida, Pius Ikedia and Calvin Bassey, all of whom have represented the Amsterdam club.

For Nigerian football, the transfer offers another opportunity for a Super Eagles player to develop at one of Europe's most successful talent-producing clubs. A strong campaign in the Netherlands could further cement Arokodare's place in the national team ahead of upcoming international competitions.

Ajax will hope the 25-year-old striker can strengthen their attack as they pursue domestic success and a return to Europe's elite competitions.
