Anthropic Commits $100 Billion to Amazon AWS in AI Partnership
Anthropic has deepened its alliance with Amazon, committing over $100 billion to Amazon Web Services (AWS) over the next decade to train and run its Claude AI models.
The deal includes an immediate $5 billion investment from Amazon, with the possibility of an additional $20 billion, building on an earlier $8 billion commitment. The scale of the agreement signals one of the largest infrastructure bets in the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence sector.
A central element of the partnership is Anthropic’s access to Amazon’s custom Trainium chips, with up to 5 gigawatts of compute power allocated for AI training. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy have spoken on the chips’ performance and cost efficiency, positioning AWS as a competitive backbone for generative AI development.
The collaboration also integrates Anthropic’s Claude directly into AWS, giving over 100,000 customers streamlined access to advanced AI tools within the cloud ecosystem.
Despite remaining unprofitable, Anthropic is projecting $14 billion in annual revenue and has reached a $380 billion valuation, making it one of the world’s most valuable private tech firms.
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers and launching Claude in 2023 after ChatGPT, the company has quickly emerged as a major AI contender.
However, its growth has been shadowed by regulatory tensions, including a U.S. government directive to halt its use in federal agencies following disputes over military access, revealing the increasing intersection of AI innovation, policy, and national security.
