After Years of Uncertainty, Wike Confirms Over 1,600 FCTA Appointments

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has approved the confirmation of 1,659 appointments within the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The decision followed a thorough confirmation examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission to formalize employment statuses.

The exams took place on February 28, assessing 2,281 FCTA staff members out of 2,512 initially invited, highlighting a shortfall of 224 officers.

Emeka Ezeh, Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, explained that the absent staff have raised concerns about possible ghost workers on the payroll.

Many of the confirmed staff were employed years ago, with some appointments dating back to 2016 and 2019, while others joined shortly before Minister Wike took office in August 2023.

The FCT Civil Service Commission is also planning the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises, showing a commitment to consistent staff progression and workforce development.

This follows a prior approval in January, where over 2,000 FCTA employees received immediate promotions after examinations conducted from November 25 to 29, 2023.

Minister Wike’s latest action ensures that years of delays are addressed, providing clarity, stability, and recognition to thousands of FCTA workers.
