Afeku Champions Kennedy Agyapong: A Bold Stance on Leadership and Industrial Vision

Former Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture Catherine Afeku has offered strong perspectives on New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong, interpreting recent comments by former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Adwoa Safo as an inadvertent endorsement of his principled approach to governance. Speaking on JoyNews’ News Desk on Friday, December 19, Ms Afeku highlighted that while Ms Safo expressed concerns about her own political future under Mr Agyapong's leadership, her statements inadvertently affirmed his integrity and commitment to merit-based leadership.
Ms Safo had acknowledged Mr Agyapong’s contributions to the party but questioned whether her significant experience and service would be recognized, given their personal relationship. She stated, “I have never said he is going to win this contest, but let us assume he wins and becomes President, and he comes across my CV… Looking at the work I have done and how I have served this nation and my party, for someone I have two children with to consider appointing me as a minister would seem impossible; hell will break loose in this country. And the Kennedy Agyapong I know, with whom I have two children, would never do it.”
Reacting to these remarks, Ms Afeku characterized them as a case of “reverse psychology,” where an attempt to criticize ultimately reinforced public confidence in Mr Agyapong’s character.
