Aero Powerhouse Rolls-Royce Forges Deeper Ties with Bharat Forge for Pearl 10X Engine

British aircraft engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce has announced a strategic partnership with Bharat Forge, an Indian company, to expand their collaboration for the production of fan blades. This agreement specifically targets the manufacturing of fan blades for Rolls-Royce's advanced Pearl 700 and Pearl 10X engines. The move signifies a considerable deepening of their existing partnership and underscores Rolls-Royce's commitment to strengthening its supply chain capabilities within India.
The agreement was formalized at Rolls-Royce's facility in Dahlewitz, near Berlin, and builds upon Bharat Forge's established role in supplying precision aerospace components for the Pearl 700 engine program. This strategic alliance is a key component of Rolls-Royce's broader initiative to double its supply chain sourcing from India by the year 2030. This objective highlights the company's dedication to fostering local manufacturing capabilities and cultivating strategic partnerships within the country.
Sashi Mukundan, Executive Vice President – Transformation, Rolls-Royce India, emphasized the significance of the new contract, stating, "This new contract reflects our commitment to developing world-class manufacturing capabilities in India. We are delighted to deepen our partnership with Bharat Forge towards advancing the ‘Make in India’ vision.”
The Pearl 10X engine, a distinguished member of Rolls-Royce's Pearl engine family, is engineered to power some of the most sophisticated and high-speed business jets. It incorporates the state-of-the-art Advance2 engine core, which is recognized as the most efficient in the business aviation sector, combined with a high-performance low-pressure system. This innovative design enables the Pearl 10X to deliver more than 18,000lb of thrust, representing a significant leap forward in high-performance aviation technology.
Bharat Forge has been a crucial supplier since the inception of the Pearl 700 program, consistently delivering high-quality machined blades. The company holds the distinction of being the first in India to provide advanced technology for precision aerospace components utilized in the Pearl engine family. Its proactive investment in cutting-edge manufacturing infrastructure has solidified its position as a reliable global supplier.
Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge, expressed pride in their contribution to the Pearl engine family. He commented, “This expanded partnership with Rolls-Royce reflects our shared commitment to engineering excellence and long-term collaboration. We are proud to support the Pearl engine family, which represents the future of high-performance aviation.”
The collaboration between Rolls-Royce and Bharat Forge initially commenced in 2020 with the Pearl 700 program. A notable milestone was achieved in 2024 when Bharat Forge delivered its first zero-defect fan blade, showcasing its capacity to meet Rolls-Royce's stringent standards for quality and delivery performance. Rolls-Royce itself boasts a rich history in India, spanning 90 years, with over 1,400 engines currently powering platforms for the Indian Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, and Army. The company's extensive ecosystem in India includes more than 4,000 employees, with 2,800 highly skilled engineers actively contributing to global development programs.
