ADC Slams Tinubu on Insecurity: Calls for Honest Community Engagement

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a strong critique of President Bola Tinubu's management of Nigeria's pervasive insecurity, urging him to engage directly and honestly with affected communities. The party accused the President of insensitivity, prioritizing political appearances over his fundamental duty to protect Nigerian lives. In a statement delivered by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC dismissed President Tinubu's remarks at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Jos, where he claimed his mission was to unite Nigerians, as mere “political rhetoric.” The party argued that Tinubu's actions since assuming office do not reflect an understanding of what is required to foster national unity.
Addressing the escalating security crisis, the ADC presented a series of recommendations to the Tinubu administration. First, it called for a formal acknowledgment of the extensive scale and complexity of the security situation nationwide, urging the government to cease making “insensitive claims of progress” that contradict the grim reality faced by Nigerians. Second, the party advised the administration to engage sincerely and directly with affected states, local governments, and communities, encouraging them to listen to their experiences and solicit their ideas. Third, the ADC recommended elevating the national security alertness level and coordinating joint military and police deployments to troubled areas, with the full participation of local and state security networks. Fourth, it pushed for a commitment to regular public reporting on security incidents and their outcomes. Finally, the party proposed instituting a transparent mechanism for tracking and auditing the use of federal security funds.
