Accra Hosts Landmark 2025 African Paralympic Committee General Assembly

The 2025 edition of the African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) General Assembly was successfully hosted at the Marriot Hotel in Accra, Ghana. This important event served as a converging point for numerous stakeholders committed to the advancement of Paralympic sports across the continent. In attendance were representatives from 42 national Paralympic Committees, alongside 20 international observers, signifying a broad and dedicated participation.
The assembly was further distinguished by the presence of several key dignitaries from Ghana. Notable attendees included Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation; Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority; and Charles Osei Asibey, the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Association, among other influential figures.
During the proceedings, African Paralympic Committee President Samson Deen delivered an address emphasizing the profound importance of the gathering. He articulated the core purpose of the assembly, stating, “The purpose is to come together, strengthen our bonds, unite, and think positively about how we can develop our sport.” President Deen further reflected on the event's success, noting, “So far, it has been a successful assembly, with 42 national Paralympic Committees and 20 international observers here to help shape the future of our region.”
A significant highlight of the General Assembly involved the recognition of the outstanding contributions made by the African Paralympic Committee’s Executive Board members. These individuals were formally awarded for their pivotal roles and sustained efforts in driving forward and enhancing Paralympic sports throughout the African continent, acknowledging their dedication and impact.
