Zimbabwe's Top Artists Honored: Full NAMA Awards Winners Revealed!

The National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) celebrated Zimbabwe's top creatives at a dazzling ceremony held on Saturday night at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC). Operating under the inspiring theme "Fearless Creativity," the event was expertly hosted by popular media personalities KVG and Phathisani Sibanda, bringing together artists, industry stakeholders, and fans for a night of recognition and festivity.

The evening saw several prominent figures taking home multiple accolades. Music heavyweights Jah Prayzah and Winky D were among the biggest winners, each securing two awards, cementing their status at the forefront of the Zimbabwean music scene. Another standout moment was Nijo the Slick Pastor's win for Outstanding Stand-Up Comedian, which was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience, highlighting the growing appreciation for comedy within the arts sector.

Critical acclaim also went to Plot Mhako, founder of Earground Media, who was honoured with the Outstanding Arts Journalist award. This recognition underscored the importance of his work, particularly his efforts in exposing misgovernance within the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA). Musician Nutty O also had a memorable night, walking away with the Outstanding Song trophy for his widely popular love anthem, "Too Much."

In the Music Awards category, Nisha Ts was recognized as the Outstanding Female Musician, while Jah Prayzah earned the title of Outstanding Male Musician. Atenda was celebrated as the Outstanding Breakthrough Musician, and Joyful Praise was named the Outstanding Music Group. "Too Much" by Nutty O claimed the Outstanding Song award, and Jah Prayzah's "Ndini Mukudzeyi" received the Outstanding Album accolade. Winky D's "Fake Love" was awarded for its Outstanding Music Video.

The Visual Arts saw Sabina Mutsvati recognized as the Outstanding Female Visual Artist for "Ndishonongoreiwo," and Pardon Mapondera as the Outstanding Male Visual Artist for "Dotipaiwo Mwenje." Tadiwanashe Joel Mafuta won for Outstanding Upcoming Visual Artist with "Dismas," and the CHEUKA Harare Art Fair, curated by Laura Ganda and Merilyn Mushakwe, was named the Outstanding Exhibition.

For Theatre Awards, Cadrick Msongelwa received Outstanding Actor for his role in "Zi Animal Farm," and Thandolwenkosi Nkiwane was named Outstanding Actress for her multi-character performance in "Ipi Ntombi." The Savanna Trust's production, "Zi Animal Farm," won Outstanding Theatrical Production, with Leonard Matsa taking home the Outstanding Director award for "Can We Talk?". Tatenda Mutyambizi was honoured as the Outstanding Playwright for "These Humans Are Sick."

In Literary Arts, Sipho Mpofu's "My Affair with Misfortune" won Outstanding Fiction Book. Morden Tavarwisa's "Gonan'ombe Retsika Namararamiro eChivanhu" was recognized as the Outstanding Non-Fiction Book, and Gerald Shorayi's "Mukanyawashe's Big Adventure" won for Outstanding Children's Book. Entourade Usayi's "The Killer Pastor" was celebrated as the Outstanding First Published Work.

The Film & Television Awards saw Leroy Siyafa winning Outstanding Actor for his role as James in "God Sleeps on Sundays," and Charity Dlodlo as Outstanding Actress for Maria in "Forget Me Not." "Magweja" by Dexter Fundire was named Outstanding Screen Production (Television), while "God Sleeps on Sundays" by Naishe Nyamubaya won for Outstanding Screen Production (Short Film). "Dilemma" by Joe Njagu was awarded as the Outstanding Screen Production (Full Length).

The Dance Awards honoured Diamond Girls for their production "Unseen Stars" as the Outstanding Dance Group/Production. Celine Madziva was recognized as the Outstanding Female Dancer for "Celine's work," and Prince Mbisa, known as Amazing Prince, won Outstanding Male Dancer for "The Rise of Amazing Prince." Tanaka Machikicho received the Outstanding Choreographer award for his work with Diamond Girls.

In Spoken Word, Nigel Maritinyu, also known as Nijo the Slick Pastor, secured the Outstanding Stand-Up Comedian award, and Sithandazile Dube was named the Outstanding Poet.

The Fashion Awards celebrated Ishmael Tsakatsa of Zargue'sia as the Outstanding Male Designer, and Danayi Madondo of Haus of Stone as the Outstanding Female Fashion Designer. Joyce Chimanye of ZUVVA was recognized for her significant contributions to the industry, earning the Outstanding Contributor to the Fashion Industry award.

The Digital Arts Awards saw Gracia Bvute of Pot Tradition named Outstanding Female Social Media Content Creator, and Marvellous Nyongoro of African Finder as Outstanding Male Social Media Content Creator. "The Ollah 7 Podcast" was awarded as the Outstanding Podcast, and "Tokoloshi Comic" took home the prize for Outstanding Social Media Skits.

Several Special Awards were also presented. DJ Nitefreak received the Outstanding Artist in the Diaspora for his work as a Music Producer/DJ in France and Spain. Odyssey Entertainment, owned by Prince Mharadze, was named Promoter of the Year for the Kadoma Music Festival. Winky D received the highly coveted People's Choice Award. Plot Mhako was again recognized, this time with the Outstanding Arts Journalist/Media House award. Nkululeko Innocent Dube was celebrated with the Arts Personality Award, and Delta Beverages -- Chibuku received the Arts Service Award. Finally, the Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Stephen Chigorimbo, honouring his enduring impact on the arts.
