Yellowstone's Luke Grimes Surprised by Return: 'Thought He Was Done!'

Luke Grimes has portrayed Kayce Dutton for nearly a decade, transitioning from the hit neo-Western Yellowstone to the CBS spin-off Marshals. His role as John Dutton III’s youngest son shows his growth from living under his father’s influence to finding personal peace.
Grimes recalls his first trip to Boot Barn for Ariat boots before filming Yellowstone Season 1, noting the same boots, hat, and jacket remain part of Kayce’s signature look. This continuity reflects both the character’s style and Grimes’ lasting connection to the role.
Landing the part of the former Navy SEAL-turned-rancher gave Grimes stability and recognition in the unpredictable entertainment world. Since becoming a Dutton, he has moved to Montana, married, and had a child, embracing both his personal and professional growth.
Grimes’ return to the series surprised him, admitting he had thought his chapter as Kayce was finished. Fans can watch the actor continue his journey in Marshals and catch up on his Yellowstone legacy through the official series pages.
