Yellow alert in place as city drenches in downpur on Sat

Mumbai: Many parts of Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai recorded intense rainfall for a brief period on Saturday afternoon. By evening, the rain had subsided.The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the city and adjoining districts of Thane, Raigad, and Palghar for Saturday, indicating thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, heavy rains, and gusty winds at isolated places.

However, from June 8, light to moderate rains are expected up to June 11.IMD officials said the rains were due to the incursion of dry and moist winds. "The IMD issued a nowcast warning for the duration when the rains were recorded," said an official. The rainfall recorded in the 24 hours ending 8am on Saturday by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory was 11.8mm and 39.9mm, respectively. tnn
