Man Dies After Jumping Into Well Under Drug Influence in Kwara State

A tragic incident occurred in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, where a 43-year-old man, identified as Kazeem, lost his life after reportedly jumping into a domestic well. The event took place in the Edun area of Ilorin, specifically at Ile Alapo (also referred to as Alapo Compound).
According to reports, Kazeem allegedly consumed a hard drug known as "Colo" (Colorado) on Friday, shortly after returning home from Eid prayers. It is believed that under the influence of this substance, he jumped into the well. This sequence of events highlights a dangerous outcome associated with substance abuse.
The Kwara State Fire Service was alerted to the situation via a distress call to their control room. The call was received at approximately 10:29 a.m., reporting that a man had fallen into a well. In response, firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene at Ile Alapo, Edun area.
Upon arrival, the fire service team successfully recovered the lifeless body of Kazeem from the domestic well. Hassan Adekunle, the spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed these details in a statement issued on Saturday. He reiterated that the victim had allegedly taken the hard substance shortly before the incident.
Following the recovery, Kazeem's body was handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the ‘C’ Division Police Station in Ilorin. The police are now awaiting formal identification and claim of the body by the victim’s family.
Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, expressed deep sadness over the incident. He took the opportunity to admonish residents of the state to stay away from drug abuse, warning that such acts often lead to preventable and tragic outcomes. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of illicit substances.
