XRP Ledger Hits Staggering 5 Billion Transactions Milestone, Igniting Future Speculation!
The XRP Ledger has surpassed 5 billion lifetime transactions, marking a significant milestone in its 14-year history of low-cost, fast settlements. This achievement coincides with growing utility in institutional DeFi, increasing real-world asset value, and new partnerships like Mastercard sponsoring the upcoming XRPL Hackathon.
The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 5 billion lifetime transactions since its inception. This accomplishment, highlighted by popular XRP explorer xrpscan and crypto community member Hussein Zangana (Vet), underscores the Ledger's efficiency in executing transactions at low cost, with settlement times of 3-4 seconds, consistently over its 14-year operational history.
The origins of the XRP Ledger trace back to 2011 when engineers David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto began its development. Their aim was to create a more sustainable and payment-centric digital asset, addressing perceived shortcomings of Bitcoin. Launched in June 2012, the XRPL has continuously evolved and expanded its utility.
Recent developments illustrate the Ledger's ongoing growth. Over 2.3 million agentic transactions have been settled, demonstrating the increasing adoption by AI agents utilizing XRP and RLUSD for on-chain services. Furthermore, XRP's utility is expanding rapidly within institutional DeFi use cases, including tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), stablecoins, and decentralized liquidity solutions. The value of real-world assets represented on the XRP Ledger has quadrupled and currently stands at $4.05 billion, as per rwa.xyz data.
The XRPL's economic model incorporates deflationary mechanisms; transaction fees are systematically burned, reducing XRP's permanently capped total supply of 100 billion. Since its inception, approximately 14,376,417 XRP, accounting for 0.014% of the total supply, has been permanently removed from circulation. The number of total XRP accounts has also seen substantial growth, exceeding 8 million, specifically reaching 8,094,489.
In the broader market, U.S. spot XRP ETFs collectively hold $1.4 billion in XRP, representing 1.62% of XRP's market capitalization, with cumulative net inflows totaling $1.62 billion. Demonstrating increasing industry recognition, Mastercard has joined as a sponsor for the upcoming XRP Ledger Hackathon, an event co-hosted by the XRP Ledger Foundation, scheduled just before the Ripple Swell event in October.
