Willie Nelson Achieves Unprecedented Chart Milestone, Matching Dolly Parton's Six-Decade Hit Streak

Legendary country artist Willie Nelson has achieved a remarkable milestone, joining Dolly Parton as the only artists to appear on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart in each of the last seven decades. This new feat comes as Nelson is featured on Kacey Musgraves’ track “Uncertain, TX,” which debuted at No. 50 on the May 16-dated ranking. The song garnered 2.4 million official U.S. streams between May 1-7, according to Luminate, and is one of 15 tracks from Musgraves’ album, Middle of Nowhere, which itself debuted at No. 2 on Top Country Albums.
“Uncertain, TX,” co-written by Musgraves and Daniel Tashian, extends Willie Nelson's already extensive chart history. Nelson, now 93, first made his mark on Hot Country Songs 64 years and two months ago with “Willingly,” which peaked at No. 10 in 1962. Throughout his illustrious career, he has accumulated two top 10 hits in the 1960s, 13 in the 1970s, 24 in the 1980s, and one each in the 1990s and 2000s, with a grand total of 21 No. 1 songs. His most recent chart appearance before this new entry was in 2019, with a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” featuring his daughter, Paula Nelson, which reached No. 36.
Dolly Parton, the other artist in this exclusive club, first charted on Hot Country Songs in 1967 with “Dumb Blonde,” peaking at No. 24. She has consistently charted in every decade since, through the 2020s. Parton holds the unique distinction of being the only artist to place a song inside the chart’s top 20 in each decade since the 1960s. Her recent entries this decade include “Tyrant,” a 2024 collaboration with Beyoncé, as well as “Have the Heart” (No. 22) with Post Malone, a remake of “Does He Love You” (No. 47) with Reba McEntire, and “Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas” (No. 48) with Michael Bublé.
